يعتبر فن “البييترا دورا” أو الأحجار الصلبة من أرقى الفنون اليدوية، حيث يتم ترصيع الرخام بأحجار شبه كريمة مصقولة ومقطوعة بدقة مثل اللازورد والعقيق لإنشاء صور فنية متداخلة بسلاسة تامة. ازدهر هذا الفن في فلورنسا خلال عصر النهضة تحت رعاية عائلة مديتشي، وانتقل لاحقا إلى الهند ليزين تاج محل.
نعتمد هذه التقنية على دمج الأحجار بمهارة تجعل الفواصل غير مرئية، مما ينتج لوحات صخرية خالدة تتجاوز في ديمومتها فن التطعيم الخشبي التقليدي.
Pietra Dura: The Art of Painting in Stone
Pietra dura, meaning “hard stone” in Italian, is a meticulous art form involving the inlay of polished, cut, and fitted semiprecious stones like lapis lazuli and onyx into marble. This technique creates seamless, painting-like images where joints are nearly invisible. Popularized in Renaissance Florence by the Medici family and later in Mughal India, it famously adorns the Taj Mahal. Unlike wood-based marquetry, this “painting in stone” remains a rare, highly specialized craft practiced by
dedicated artisans.
