CPD Session 03/2025 – A Successful Knowledge Sharing Experience!

The IESL Qatar Chapter proudly conducted CPD-3 today at Stafford Sri Lankan School, Doha, with the participation of around 20 Sri Lankan engineers in Qatar. This session marked another important step in elevating our professional knowledge and strengthening our engineering fraternity.

Topic: Basics of Steel Structures in the Construction Industry.

Resource Person: C.Eng. A.R.M. Rifaath – an expert in steel structures.

C.Eng. Rifaath delivered an exceptionally insightful, practical, and interactive session, sharing his vast industry experience through real-world examples, case studies, and best practices. Participants were highly engaged, asking questions and actively contributing to discussions, turning the session into a true knowledge-sharing forum.

Participants expressed great appreciation for the session’s practical value, citing that the knowledge gained will directly support their professional roles and technical decision-making in ongoing projects.

Dear Engineers,

The Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka (IESL) – Qatar Chapter, in collaboration with the IESL Head Quarters CPD Committee, is pleased to announce its first CPD session for 2025 titled *"Why You Should Know Etiquette – A Training Programme on Professional Behaviour."* This session is scheduled for Friday, 13 June 2025, from 4.00 PM to 5.30 PM (Qatar Time) / 6.30 PM to 8.00 PM (Sri Lanka Time) and will be conducted via MS Teams.

The session will be facilitated by Eng. Prabodha Jinasena, an experienced Soft Skills and Personality Development Trainer and former Head of the Training Division at CECB.

The program will cover essential topics such as the importance of professional etiquette, the difference between ethics and etiquette, and common behavioural mistakes encountered in the workplace.

All Sri Lankan engineering professionals are encouraged to attend this valuable professional development opportunity aimed at enhancing workplace behaviour and communication.

IESL Qatar Chapter BBQ Night 2025

Venue: Al Bidda Park, Doha, Qatar

The IESL Qatar Chapter BBQ Night 2025, held on Friday, 02 May 2025, at Al Bidda Park in Doha, Qatar, was a resounding success. The event, attended by approximately 60 participants, including members, spouses, and children, fostered a sense of camaraderie and belonging among the Sri Lankan engineering community.

The evening commenced with warm greetings and the distribution of specially designed IESL-Qatar Chapter t-shirts to all members. These t-shirts, emblazoned with the chapter’s logo, symbolised unity and a shared professional identity. The distribution of these t-shirts was met with enthusiastic reception from the participants.

The organising committee meticulously planned the event’s logistics, ensuring seamless coordination of food and entertainment. The picturesque setting of Al Bidda Park, with its expansive lawns and refreshing evening breeze, provided an ideal ambiance for meaningful interactions and jubilant celebrations.

A highlight of the evening was the children’s segment, which featured a variety of games and recreational activities tailored specifically for the young attendees. The children enthusiastically participated in all the events, their energy and infectious laughter illuminating the park. Concluding the activities, gifts were distributed to all the children, further enhancing their overall experience.

As families intermingled, old acquaintances reconnected, and new friendships were forged. The BBQ dinner was a resounding success, featuring a delectable spread of grilled meats, traditional side dishes, and beverages, all freshly prepared and savoured by the attendees under the starlit sky.

The event concluded with two speeches delivered by esteemed guests, adding depth and purpose to the occasion.

At the IESL Qatar Chapter 2024/25 Chairman CEng. Chandima expressed his gratitude to all participants, volunteers, and the organising team for the event’s resounding success. He outlined the Chapter’s future plans, which include community-driven initiatives, professional development programs, and family-oriented events that will further strengthen member connections.

Former Chairman CEng. Jagath also addressed the gathering, delivering an inspiring message of appreciation and encouragement. He commended the committee for organising such a successful event and motivated members to continue conducting similar programs in the future, emphasising the significance of these gatherings in fostering a resilient and connected engineering community.

The evening was captured in photographs, capturing both group and individual moments throughout the event. These documented memories will serve as cherished recollections of a truly exceptional evening shared among peers and their families.

As the sun descended over Doha, laughter reverberated through the park, conveying a shared sentiment among all attendees: BBQ Night 2025 transcended its status as an event, becoming a celebration of unity, belonging, and joy. The IESL Qatar Chapter extends its heartfelt appreciation to all participants and eagerly anticipates future gatherings.
