Before I wish you “Happy Holidays,” let’s acknowledge that some of us, who are geographically (or emotionally) distant from our families, may feel alone and sad during this time. But there is a difference between aloneness and solitude, which involves enjoying our own company.

As Abraham Lincoln once put it,

“I desire so to live that, if in the end, I have lost every other friend on earth, I shall at least have one friend left, and that friend shall be inside of me.”

It really takes that long.
