EU Deforestation Law Already Driving Change Before Implementation

The EU Regulation on Deforestation-free Products is not yet fully in force, but it is already influencing how companies approach supply chains. Early evidence shows that major global firms are starting to invest in traceability and adjust sourcing practices in anticipation of stricter requirements on commodities linked to deforestation.

The regulation requires companies to ensure that products placed on the EU market are not linked to deforestation, pushing businesses to map and verify complex global supply chains. While some companies have made measurable progress, overall adoption remains uneven, with a significant share still lacking comprehensive commitments or clear implementation strategies.

The discussion around the law also highlights a broader shift in how environmental risks are managed. Regulatory pressure is increasingly seen as necessary to drive consistent action, especially in areas where voluntary commitments have delivered mixed results.
