Next week we will attend the Conference in Bucharest and on Thursday we will be holding a Lab about how to use Vagrant and VirtualBox to automate the creation of a micro GIS environment.

Cross-Platform GIS Micro-Environment with Vagrant and VirtualBox But first let's download Vagrant by going to https://www.vagrantup.com, choose the installer that matches your OS and install it. After this, some Vagrant plugins must be installed, plugins that will make our life a lot easier when we want to run the VirtualBox machine.

EN✎We start the New Year with a map that uses mainly open source technology like Turf.js, PostgreSQL/PostGIS, Overpass API to create a map that uses the location of the user to show the closest places like pubs, bars, restaurants, fast-food and cafes (from OpenStreetMap) to him/her.
CARTO is used due to its integration with the PostgreSQL platform.
The number of the places (pubs, bars, restaurants, fast-food or cafes) shown on the map is chose by the user. Due to Turf.js, we get the distance between the user’s location and the places chosen by him/her.
The map is mobile friendly. The elements are carefully placed on the map in a way that makes the map easy to use on mobile too.
Three big cities in Romania were chosen: Bucharest, Brasov and Cluj for testing purposes, but any other city in the world can be added for a few days by request at [email protected]
Soon we will make a tutorial to show how to use Turf.js, a JavaScript library that makes spatial analysis in browser, together with Leaflet.

RO✎Începem Anul Nou cu o hartă care utilizează tehnologia liberă în principal, cm ar fi Turf.js, PostgreSQL / PostGIS, Overpass API, pentru a crea o hartă care folosește locația utilizatorului pentru a arăta cele mai apropiate locuri ca pub-uri, baruri, restaurante, fast-food-uri și cafenele (din OpenStreetMap) față de utilizator.
CARTO este utilizat datorită integrării sale cu platforma PostgreSQL.
Numărul de locuri (pub-uri, baruri, restaurante, fast-food-uri sau cafenele) afișate pe hartă este ales de către utilizator. Datorită libăriei Turf.js, se obține și se afișează distanța dintre locația utilizatorului și locurile alese de el/ea.
Harta este mobile friendly. Elementele sunt atent plasate pe hartă într-un mod care face harta foarte ușor de utilizat pe mobil.
S-au ales trei orase mari din România: București, Brașov și Cluj în scopul testării, dar orice alt oraș din lume poate fi adăugat pentru câteva zile, la cerere prin e-mail la [email protected]
In curand vom face un tutorial pentru a arăta modul de utilizare a Turf.js, o bibliotecă JavaScript care face analiza spațială în browser, împreună cu Leaflet.

Coffee, Pubs, Bars, Fast Food and Restaurants Overpass API was used to get the data programaticaly from OpenStreetMap in GeoJSON format, via Overpass turbo an interactive Web based frontend platform.
