July 1985. In one decision, Nicolae Ceaușescu becomes both full member AND honorary president of the Academy — the country's highest scientific body. No thesis. No doctorate. Just a "special resolution."
🎓But it gets better. His high school diploma? He finally earned it in 1966. At age 51.
You read that right. Nineteen years BEFORE becoming an academician, the man collected his baccalaureate — while already General Secretary of the Party, running a country of 20 million.

The boy who left school at 11 to apprentice as a shoemaker climbed the academic ladder in the exact reverse order of all logic: first he ran the country, then got his diploma, and finally became an academician. 👞➡️🎓

📌 In 1985 the institution was officially the Academy of the Socialist Republic of Romania. The "Romanian Academy" name returned only after 1989 — when the Ceaușescus were posthumously expelled on 26 December, the day after their ex*****on.

📅 𝑱𝒖𝒏𝒆 29, 1984 — 𝑨 𝒅𝒂𝒕𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒆𝒓𝒆𝒅 𝒉𝒊𝒔𝒕𝒐𝒓𝒚 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒂𝒍𝒍 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒘𝒓𝒐𝒏𝒈 𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒔𝒐𝒏𝒔.

⭐Romania's Grand National Assembly approved the "Scientific Food Programme" — making Romania the first (and likely only) country to enshrine a state-mandated diet into law. Elaborated by the Communist Party in 1982, it was sold as balancing "what people eat" with "real nutritional needs." The UN recommended 2,800 calories/day — Ceaușescu's plan stipulated 2,800–3,000. Better on paper. A cruel fiction in reality.
⭐Since 1978, Ceaușescu blamed obesity for 30% of illnesses. Behind the science? A cynical cover for a man-made famine —80% of the food was exported to repay foreign debt while Romanians survived on rationed bread, sugar & milk. Or second quality bone meat. By decree: 39 kg meat, 78L milk, 166 kg vegetables… per year. Doctors, professors & labor unions all declared Romanians simply didn't need more food.
