“Take a deep breath” is often bad advice when someone is already anxious.
A lot of people hear that and try to take a huge inhale into the chest, then wonder why they don’t feel calmer.
For anxiety, start softer.
Less focus on pulling air in.
More focus on letting the breath out slowly.
This is one of the simplest breathwork tools for anxiety and nervous system regulation.
