| HMM has signed an MoU with Hanwha Group subsidiaries and Korean Register (KR) to jointly develop a next-generation zero-carbon propulsion system for ships.

Through this collaboration, our experts will work together to design an innovative system that generates thrust from thrust from Ammonia-based Gas Turbine(GT) and electrical power from fuel cells, enabling fully carbon-free operation. The project will focus on container vessels and explore hybrid propulsion concepts combining fuel cells and batteries, along with economic feasibility studies and optimized hull design.

By combining our operational expertise with Hanwha’s advanced technologies and KR’s technical verification framework, we aim to create a strong synergy that accelerates innovation in maritime decarbonization. This initiative also represents another important step toward our Net-Zero 2045 goal, as we continue to lead the industry’s transition through LNG dual-fuel and methanol-powered containerships.
