🏵️ MYCELAR seen by Bogdan

"My story of MYCELAR starts in 2015. In 2015, our 2nd year participating at Waha Festival, I approached them with an idea:
🐣 How about starting a Community stage, based on free improvised music?
They agreed, and after building a (literal and big) stage for us, we were greenlit to do whatever we wanted to, during 4 days. 🥳
By that time we didn't even own a pair of speakers, so the stage was purely acoustic until the last day. 🪘 🎸
We camped next to our community stage. 🏕️
It was chaotic, unpredictable and oozing with aliveness.
Magic musical moments, encounters that never happened again. Raw & wild.
The following years the Jam Stage as it was officially called, grew gradually into a main focus point, but our contribution and vision was gradually reduced as more and more people who were closer to the organizers were involved.
Eventually it became a concert stage, and free jams happened at most for 2 hours in the afternoon. Still, every edition brought beautiful moments of connection, but the general trend saddened me. 🪵🌳

One day a guy came to me after an extended jam and told me: "You know, for me, what is happening at the Jam Stage is what a festival should be all about. Spontaneity, dialogue, unforeseen music happening between people that barely know each other. Real connecting." 🤼🏻🪇
Other people would echo something similar.
My heart was shouting "YES! But what do we do about it?"

Then, the pandemic hit. ⏳
In January 2022, Waha announced that they still wouldn't organize a festival that year.
That moment, remembering all our experiences at Waha, workshops, jams, enthusiasm we decided: Let's try it on our own. 🐾☀️

Everybody in the team back then, Lucian, Irina, Adi, were on board.
I've made an extended list of musicians from Romania or nearby, with whom I had had great interactions prior, and called through all around 35 of them. 🎺

The idea then, as it is now, was simple: we meet, connect and rehearse for 3 days, then we open the doors for the public: the admission price should cover (hopefully) all of the costs for the musicians involved, but no one gets money for what they are offering. Possible surpluses go to Cercul Întreg for equipment, rent and running costs. 🌄 🙏🏻

Most musicians agreed and came. Some have been coming every year since.

MYCELAR 1st edition was energy and emotions overflowing, ecstasy and agony as close as they could be. 🥹
Organization was chaotic, and at times careless. I've learned it the hard way that I have to have my s**t together, even while energy is flowing wildly, and my carelessness made me lose close friends and collaborators. 🤹🏼‍♂️

One year later, the second edition, started with an all new organizing team comprised of Magda, Nadia, Diana and Sofia Țirca. It felt like being born anew with all the birth pains included. 🎇

To this day, they are still the organizing core of MYCELAR Gathering. And the organizing and stabilizing force of Cercul Întreg as it is now.

Edition 3 followed. Then 4.

5th is coming up."

MUSICAL ARTISTS at MYCELAR Gathering - ediția 5
[Part IV]

Razvan Krivach
Răzvan is at home with almost any instrument and any genre. One of the few at MYCELAR Gathering having studied music also formally, he brings an input that is unique and inconfoundable, on vocals, guitars, FX and on bass.

Nilășan Evelin [NAYAD EVE]
Soft-spoken and soft-sung, Eve brings a special sweetness into the mix. Often bringing alternate voices into the game, it often feels like she sprinkles some extra harmony whenever she appears.

Cristian ArtaVerde
Leaving behind an engineering profession to follow a deeper calling for native american flutes, he brings his connection to nature into heart opening sounds and healing guided journeys. A master of crafting wood into native style flutes, he pours his heart into sound and herbalism, creating coldpressed plant oils and tinctures.

Andy Coop
From a background of percussion and african drums, he quickly jumped into the handpan universe, blending his accuracy of rhythm with flowing sounds of handpan. Ocasionally surprising you with his inner mongolian vocal impro and overtones.
