📊 Bilant vs. Balanta in Romanian Accounting – What’s the Difference?

Many foreign entrepreneurs doing business in Romania often confuse the terms “Bilant” and “Balanta.” While they sound similar, they serve very different purposes in Romanian accounting.

🔹 Bilant (Balance Sheet)
This is the official financial statement submitted annually to the Romanian authorities (ANAF).
It shows the company’s assets, liabilities, and equity at year-end and forms part of the annual financial statements.

🔹 Balanta (Trial Balance / Verification Balance)
This is an internal accounting document, usually prepared monthly.
It lists all ledger accounts, debit and credit movements, and ending balances.
Its purpose is to verify that accounting records are correct before preparing financial statements and tax filings.

👉 In short:
Balanta is for internal control. Bilant is for official reporting.
