🥛A peek into decentralized social media 👀 30/12/2022

MilkRoad has been also hitting on the topic "Decentralised Social".

There's a new blockchain in town called DeSo (a.k.a. "Decentralised Social"). It's fast and cheap. You can use it to store identity and connections. You can even store content and likes.

As they explain on their website:

“Anyone who runs a node to curate their own feed also contributes data back to the public pool of profiles, posts, follows, etc... that's stored on the public blockchain. A post or a like on ESPN's node can be surfaced on Politico's feed. A post made in China can be surfaced on a feed running on a node in America and vice versa.”

We're happy to see someone has made a priority out of this.

Social media monopolies and censorship might come to an end soon.

Taming the beast. Coca-Cola, the Supply Chain and the Blockchain.

You might think of Coca-Cola as a business with a simple supply chain. How hard can it be to put some sweet water into bottles?

The reality is that Coca-Cola is not a lone wolf. They have partners that do the bottling. Partners that close the cans. Partners that extract the sugar. Partners that transport the sugar. Partners that bring the water.

These partners have their own partners. And the list goes on.

It becomes hard to work together. People have trouble keeping supply in sync. You order 1000 cans now. But by the time you place the order, someone else ordered cans and you're out of stock.

The worst part is when people start lying. Bribery. Sub-standard quality. Exploitation. It's not hard to alter the truth in a database.

Blockchain offers a system that no party can manipulate.

Ernst & Young, Microsoft and a few other companies found an opportunity here. They developed an Ethereum-based system called the Baseline Protocol. This can keep track of what was purchased, price, when it was shipped. In the end it's a communication channel. And anyone can use it.

SAP, Salesforce and Oracle have already integrated Baseline protocol in their ERPs.

As for Coca-cola, they have already rolled out this new system to some of their partners. But it's an ongoing research for them as well.

We don't have a lot of public information so far, but we can assume this is starting to have a great impact. Being able to trust your supply chain has many benefits. It reduces your costs. It speeds up your delivery cycle. It helps you stick to local regulations and to your own ethics.

Let us know your thoughts in the comments. If you enjoyed the topic we will get into more detail with this in another post. 😉
