WEEKEND EXHIBITION. WHERE TO GO THIS WEEKEND?

The State Tretyakov Gallery presents a large-scale exhibition project "Vasnetsovs. Link of Generations. From XIX to XXI century", which will familiarize viewers with the versatile work of the Vasnetsovs: Viktor Mikhailovich (1848-1926), Apollinarii Mikhailovich (1856-1933) and Andrei Vladimirovich (1924-2009).

The artistic dynasty of Vasnetsovs made a significant contribution to the history of national art. Viktor Mikhailovich was a master of folklore and epic paintings, who anticipated in his work the artistic discoveries of the Art Nouveau and Symbolism eras. His younger brother Apollinarii Mikhailovich for the first time in Russian art turned to the theme of pictorial reconstruction of architecture and life of ancient Russia. Andrei Vladimirovich Vasnetsov (grandson of Victor Mikhailovich) is one of the founders of the "severe style", is a major master of monumental and easel painting in the second half of the twentieth century.

Artists of different generations, bearing the same surname, united the desire for universalism and synthesis of art, although the work of each of them is strictly individual and has no stylistic kinship. Their worldview was formed on the principles of humanism and Christian ethics, on the interest in literature, philosophy, politics, science and religion.

The Vasnetsov dynasty can be characterized as artists-thinkers, who in art raised eternal questions, encouraging viewers to comprehend the true harmony and beauty.

The exhibition is timed to the 175-th anniversary of Viktor Vasnetsov's birth and the 100-th anniversary of Andrei Vasnetsov's birth.
