Despite the advance of the ruthless tourism industry, Abkhazia preserves a special spirit that is passed down from generation to generation. The place where this spirit manifests itself, where it connects generations, is apatskha. This is a wicker building with an open hearth in the middle. Family cooks abysta here, smoke cheese and meat, keeps hunting trophies... They also invite guests here on chilly winter evenings.

Are there places like this in other traditions? And are we creating places with the same functionality in our urban non-traditional communities?
