A mother baboon is one of the most caring and protective mothers in the wild. From the moment her baby is born, she carries it close to her chest, keeping it warm and safe. As the infant grows, it rides on her back while she moves through the forest or savannah, always staying within her reach.
She teaches her young one how to forage, socialize, and recognize danger. Even in large troops, a baby baboon knows its mother’s voice and will run straight to her when frightened. Her patience, strength, and constant attention show a deep bond that is easy to recognize when you observe baboons in the wild.
Seeing a mother baboon with her baby is a beautiful reminder that love and care exist across all species just like in human families.
Welcome to Akagera National Park – Where Africa’s Big Five Meet in One Place!
Visit Rwanda – Explore the Wild Heart of the East
Akagera National Park is Rwanda’s only savannah park and the best destination for wildlife lovers looking for a truly memorable safari. Located just a short drive from Kigali, Akagera offers one of the fastest and most rewarding wildlife viewing experiences in East Africa.
What makes Akagera special is its unique concentration of wildlife in a relatively compact area. Unlike many places in Africa where you need several days to search for wildlife, Akagera stands out because you can often spot the Big Five in just a few hours.
✔ Lions
✔ Leopards
✔ Elephants
✔ Buffaloes
✔ Rhinos
In fact, Akagera is one of the few parks in Africa where visitors have the chance to see four of the Big Five within the first hour of their game drive—and on a typical day trip, guests usually spot at least three of the Big Five.
From open savannah plains to papyrus wetlands and beautiful rolling hills, Akagera’s scenery alone is breathtaking. The park is home to over 500 species of birds, thriving elephant herds, large groups of antelopes, giraffes proudly walking across the plains, and impressive family groups of hippos and crocodiles in Lake Ihema.
Whether you’re enjoying a sunrise game drive, a full-day safari, or a boat trip on the lake, Akagera delivers unforgettable experiences.
