Our Third Domain
The Attendance Domain

Even though we're in COVID days with all the craziness of online learning, we at the feedback project never forget about attendance and the constant worry and disagreements it caused both doctors and students

That is why today we'll be taking a look at the preliminary report of the Attendance domain of the feedback project 🧮

The research in the attendance domain wanted to get to the bottom of things through the following research objective:

⭕️ To evaluate the opinions of both staff and students about the attendance system at university of Khartoum, Faculty of Medicine.

💬This domain used qualitative methods to collect and analyze data using focus group discussions of students from all academic levels.

💢Findings💢

• Students agree that attendance and teaching quality go hand-in-hand
• Students agree that whilst self-studying may be an option for theoretical learning and basic
sciences, there is nothing that can replace their clinical rounds (attendance should be
mandatory)
• Students suggested several modifications to the attendance system and policy

Recommendations ✍💭

Further data must be collected and analyzed, but so far, students suggest that:

⚖ The percentage of allowed absence be raised above 25%

⚖Students who are absent for 25% of their lectures be contacted by faculty to see if there are any
on-going issues

⚖Attendance should be positively reinforced (e.g. marks can be given to students with good attendance
records) rather than negatively reinforced (i.e. prohibiting students from sitting for exams)

⚖ All departments should prepare a schedule including topics and dates of each lecture throughout the
semester, and this timetable should be shared with students at start of semester, so students can
look forward to, and prepare for, lectures (like pathology department already does)

⚖Attendance policies be clearly stated to new students, and be made accessible for everyone to
read (e.g. hung on walls/lecture halls, added to website, etc.)

كان مجالنا الثاني مجال التقييم والتقويم

الهدف العام من هذا البحث كان لاستكشاف تصور الطلاب لنظام التقييم والتقييم في كلية الطب في جامعة الخرطوم.

💬 استخدم هذا المجال الأساليب النوعية لجمع البيانات وتحليلها باستخدام مناقشات المجموعة المركزة للطلاب من جميع المستويات الأكاديمية.

💢النتائج💢
أشار الطلاب إلى العديد من إيجابيات وسلبيات نظام التقييم والتقويم الحالي. لم يتم توزيع الرضا عن التقييم بشكل موحد بين المراحل أو الأقسام. وقد حظي التقييم والتقدير اللذان أجراهما أقسام العلوم الأساسية(قسم وظائف الاعضاء، التشريح و البايوكمستري) بقبول جيد بشكل عام. وافق الطلاب بأغلبية ساحقة على فوائد التقييم المستمر مع إبرازه باعتباره النقطة الأكثر إيجابية في النظام.

✍ التوصيات ✍
📍إنشاء دليل الاختبار الذي يوضح المصادر والأهداف للدراسة الذي يوضح الاهذاف الاساسية من كل كورس و توضيح هيكل الاختبار. يجب أن يكون متاحًا للطلاب من اليوم الأول. (معايير التقييم)
📍تكوين قسم مراقبة الجودة للتأكد من أن الاختبارات تفي بالمعايير القياسية ، ولتشكيل رابط موضوعي متسق بين الطلاب والمعلمين.
📍تنويع طرق اختبار المعرفة: الورق ، الشفهي ، الندوات ، كتابة التقارير ... إلخ.
📍 استخدام أشكال مختلفة من الأسئلة في ورقة الامتحان. MCQs ، EMQs ، المقالات ، الملاحظات القصيرة ... إلخ.
📍 توفير الاختبارات القصيرة عبر الإنترنت من قبل الاقسام في أوقات محددة على مدار الكورس الدراسي مما يتيح للطلبة تقييم معرفتهم.
📍 يجب أن يشارك الطلاب في تحديد الجدول الزمني للاختبار ويجب مراعاة آرائهم وملاحظاتهم قبل نشرها.
📍تحديد أدوار المراقبين وتوحيد قواعد قاعات الامتحانات وإيجاد حل لمشكلة مقاعد الOSPE..
📍 حل الاختبارات مع الطلاب في قاعة المحاضرات أو في مجموعة الدروس و تسليط الضوء على مجالات الأخطاء ومراجعة الموضوعات ذات الصلة.
📍 يجب تحديد النسب المئوية للتقييم المستمر بشكل واضح والإشارة إليها في نتائج التقييم النهائية.
📍ايجاد طرق إبداعية لتقييم الsoft skills.

Starting our Event Report with one of our most Important Domains

The Psychological Issues Domain

Psychological issues were addressed using both qualitative and quantitative methodologies

🧠Quantitatively the team aimed to assess psychological issues among
medical students at university of Khartoum.
🧠Qualitative methods were used to understand students perceptions and recommendations regarding the possible psychological interventions.

💢Preliminary data are worrisome, the students suffer from a spectrum of psychological morbidities and the high academic load contributes to it.

💬Regarding the interventions, the students have alot of preferences and recommendations.

Recommendations✍

1- Mental wellbeing should be addressed as a major issue by the faculty administration.
2- The students recommend the establishment of a functioning Mentorship program.
3- The students recommend having a resident psychologist at the faculty.
4- The students showed significant welcoming to the concept of support groups.
5- The students recommend that the academic load is to be distributed fairly across the years.
6- Special measures should be taken towards repeators
7- Substitute exams should be available for students who are going through psychological issues .
8- The students recommend establishing a feedback system to evaluate and assess all the new interventions to ensure sustainability.
