India has officially reaffirmed its adherence to the One-China policy, recognizing Taiwan as an integral part of China. Despite this diplomatic stance, India continues to maintain economic, technological, and cultural ties with Taiwan, facilitated through representative offices rather than formal diplomatic relations.

Recent reports citing Indian officials suggest no change in India's Taiwan policy, emphasizing a balanced approach that respects the One-China principle while fostering practical engagement with Taiwan in key areas. This cautious stance aims to manage regional geopolitical dynamics and maintain stable relations with China.

Regarding broader ties, India is strengthening defense, economic, and strategic cooperation with China. Both nations are working to rebuild their relationship through dialogue and bilateral agreements, moving toward enhanced collaboration while managing disputes.

In summary, India supports China's sovereignty claim over Taiwan diplomatically but maintains unresolved, albeit pragmatic, relations with Taiwan focused on non-political areas, alongside efforts to deepen ties with China on multiple fronts.

India and China have recently taken significant steps to restore and strengthen their bilateral relations after years of tension following a deadly border clash in 2020. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and China’s top diplomat Wang Yi met in New Delhi, praising steady progress in improving ties. During talks, both sides agreed on measures to maintain peace and tranquility along the Himalayan border while working towards solutions on delimitation and boundary issues.

As part of rebuilding ties, India and China agreed to resume direct flights that were suspended since 2020 due to the pandemic and border tensions. They also planned to boost trade and investment, including reopening border trade at designated points and easing visa restrictions to promote people-to-people exchanges.

The visit marks Modi’s first trip to China in seven years, scheduled for the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit later this month. Both nations emphasized the importance of strategic cooperation and mutual respect to foster stable and constructive relations that contribute to regional and global peace.

The renewed diplomatic engagement comes amid broader geopolitical shifts, with India balancing its relationships with the U.S. and China. Despite economic competition and unresolved border disputes, both countries are committed to dialogue and enhancing economic connectivity to reduce tensions and promote prosperity in the region.
