The story behind Triptale

The year was 1987. I had been working for 24 hours and promised my friends to not fall asleep, but after driving just a few kilometres, I started to nod off. Too tired to make good decisions, that’s how the brain works, I continued my drive. Suddenly I found myself passing over to the opposite lane, running over a bus stop sign and ending up in a field.

That day, I was lucky. If this had occurred 3 seconds earlier, I would have landed in a deep ditch. Or three seconds later straight into the lake Mälaren.

In September 1997 I met my fantastic wife Anna. The day after my birthday party, I drove her to the airport. After dropping her off, I was really tired and planned to stop for a break to avoid falling asleep. Meanwhile the radio played an interesting political debate. I had no problems at all staying awake, and all of a sudden, I was back home again. This surprised me a lot.

Many years later, I started research in human behaviour. I found that it is dangerous to be bored while driving. The risk of falling asleep increases and people take actions against boredom that is not good. They drive faster, they overtake or update their social media. Rest, coffee and cognitive stimulation is the only thing that works to stop people from falling asleep.

My own “fall asleep” story and the research led me to the creation of Triptale.

Triptale is an app that cognitively stimulates your brain with short pod casts about your current location and your destination. We mix it with music from your Spotify playlist or from streaming media. It is Storytelling on the move and it sounds a lot like radio about your journey.

Triptale is also a new communication platform. The municipalities and companies have difficulties to reach out to people on the road. Triptale is currently the only way for them to present themselves in the right place and time. See it as a sign saying for instance “Welcome to Västerås” but instead of passing it in one second it lasts for a minutes.

By the way. If you say to me “Drive safely” or “don’t fall asleep” I will say “I´ll do my best”, I don’t promise that kind of things again.
