How can elderly and visually impaired commuters access bus arrival information more easily? A team of Ngee Ann Polytechnic (NP) students set out to reimagine this.
Developed by five second-year Business Studies students from NP’s School of Business & Accountancy as part of their Kickstart a Business module, BEasy Buses is a smart keychain prototype that helps users check bus timings without relying on mobile phones. The idea took shape through user interviews and field observations, as the team focused on a clear gap faced by seniors and those with visual impairments.
Using voice prompts, location-based updates and multi-language options, BEasy Buses is designed to make bus arrival information more accessible at busy stops and interchanges. The team iterated through multiple prototypes, from cardboard and clay to 3D-printed models. The result is a simplified interface built around a single speech button.
The project was recently featured on Mediacorp’s 8world, with the team exploring opportunities to further develop the concept.
Well done to our students for grounding innovation in real community needs and designing with accessibility in mind.

Meet Chiara Narag, our Business Studies student who turned her love for crochet into CrochetbyC, a small but growing handmade floral business.
What began on peer-to-peer platforms has since evolved into a steady online presence, with Chiara managing school, custom orders and the time-intensive craft behind each piece.
At Ngee Ann Polytechnic, her coursework has sharpened how she approaches branding, customer behaviour and perceived value, informing how she positions CrochetbyC, from her brand story to product design.
That thinking is tested in real settings. Her first pop-up within the NP campus offered a closer look at how customers browse, respond and decide. She will next bring CrochetbyC to Innopoly, an annual innovation and enterprise festival organised by The Sandbox over two days next month.
“The opportunities, resources and encouragement I received at NP make me feel very supported in my entrepreneurial journey and motivate me to continue growing the business,” Chiara shares.
CrochetbyC was recently featured in an article by The Straits Times spotlighting local makers: https://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/cant-get-enough-of-cj-hendrys-flower-market-here-are-some-local-makers-you-can-support-instead
