Sierra Leone Library Board (SLLB) on Thursday 19th February, 2026 welcomed the Chief Executive (Alison Tweed) of Book Aid International (BAI) UK at the headquarters library in Freetown.
Book Aid International (BAI) UK has been a long standing partner with the Sierra Leone Library Board (SLLB) for many years supporting the library with donations of brand new books of all disciplines annually. This support has tremendously aided the library board to implement most of its functions as a National Library and has uplifted the importance of the Institution to other government institutions and its constituents in the country.
The Chief Librarian (Mr. Musa Bala Mansaray) of the Sierra Leone Library Board expressed sincere gratitude to Book Aid International UK through their representative the Chief Executive. He extends thanks and appreciation to the entire BAI team in the UK and furthered that, the library operates with books and BAI has been like a life support to the operations of the library. So having a trusted and reliable partner like BAI supporting the library with donations of free books every year is very much appreciated, not withstanding the support of the creation of projects like EXPLORER LIBRARIES and INSPIRING READERS in different community schools across the country.
The Chief Executive of Book Aid International (BAI) UK expressed deep certisfaction for the warm welcome accorded to her and confessed that, she really felt at home. She said, she is also impressed with the management of the Library Board before and now. She explained that, when she took over as Chief Executive in 2012 she engaged the former Chief Librarian (Mr. Salieu Turay) on a massive tour in reviving the partnership support between BAI and the SLLB. She commended the management of the library board for their hard work in maintaining the partnership with Book Aid amidst the many challenges faced with BAI in the past. She said, her main purpose of visiting is to listen to what the library's requirements are and feedback to the partnership not only the books they send but what the library board's priorities are, plans for the future, where to focus on and promised to finding ways to work together in supporting the library board.
The Chief Librarian of SLLB appreciated her visit to the library in order to come in person and listen to feedback of their support, challenges, priorities and plans of the Library Board and most importantly planning together on how to tackle them and give more support to the felt need of the library board in order to improve on its functions and continues maintaining the partnership.
The Management organised a tour with the Chief Executive BAI at the headquarters library and to other libraries in the Western Urban and Rural districts including one Explorer project School Library in the Western Area.
