Handicap International - Humanity & Inclusion (HI), in partnership with CARE International through the Inclusive Technical Assistance Project (ITA), is proud to support the implementation of the HIV and AIDS Prevention Project (HAPP IV). This technical assistance aims to empower youth and girls/women with visual impairments by ensuring they have access to critical information on HIV and Education on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR).

On April 19th and 20th, 2024, HI conducted a transformative training on inclusive pedagogies for 30 teachers from five selected junior schools in Freetown. These schools include Freetown Secondary School for Girls (FSSG), West Africa Methodist Collegiate Secondary School, Sierra Leone Grammar School, Methodist Girls High School, and Government Secondary Technical School. These institutions were chosen based on their significant number of visually impaired students, who are the primary focus of this initiative.

The training was designed to ensure that every child and adolescent, regardless of their abilities, can access essential information on Child and Adolescent Health and Life Skills through braille and audio formats. During the sessions, teachers explored various teaching styles to accommodate the diverse needs of learners in their classrooms.

By the end of the training, teachers demonstrated a deep understanding and acquired the necessary knowledge and skills to promote inclusive learning environments. They developed action plans to address barriers faced by children with different kind of impairments within their schools, ensuring that every student can thrive and reach their full potential.
