Ministry of Employment, Labour and Social Security has concluded a three-day compliance mission in Bo and Kenema, announcing tougher nationwide enforcement of the Employment and Work Permit Acts, with inspections, regional offices, and stricter checks at airports, seaports and borders.
The Ministry of Employment, Labour and Social Security (MELSS) in Sierra Leone has intensified nationwide enforcement of the Employment and Work Permit Acts, following targeted blitz inspections in Bo and Kenema. Employers found illegally hiring foreign nationals without valid permits face heavy fines, operational bans, or business closures.
Key Highlights of the Enforcement Drive:
Regional & Border Controls: In addition to regional offices, stricter compliance and immigration sweeps are taking place at airports, seaports, and border crossings.
Site Inspections: Enforcement teams are directly targeting factories, construction sites, and major employers (such as the First Tricon Limited on the Bo-Kenema Highway) to check worker legality and employment contracts.
Official Guidelines: All businesses are required to use the e-Work Permit System to properly document their foreign workforce.
