Takeaways from China 🇨🇳

At the end of a successful visit to China by Sierra Leone’s President Julius Maada Bio for the 2024 FOCAC, below are some of the important takeaways:

1. President Xi Jinping announced USD$50 billion financial support for African Countries for the next three years. This is USD$20 billion more than a pledge of USD$30 billion that was announced three years ago in the previous FOCAC in Dakar, Senegal.

2. GoSL signed a USD$50 million Agreement on SMART Sierra Leone Project.

3. ⁠*lGoSL signed Agreement on Digital Village Project to interface agriculture and technology in Tormabum.

4. Mineral Wealth Fund SL Limited signed a Landmark Framework Agreement to expand the mining sector through significant investment in Tonkolili Iron Ore deposits and critical infrastructure.

5. Chinese Government awarded International Fish Export Certificate to Sierra Leone after 14 years of waiting.

6. Chinese Government will increase Development Assistance to Sierra Leone this year to the tune of 200 million Chinese yuan.

At the African Food Systems Forum 2024 in Kigali, Chief Minister Deepends Bilateral Relations between Sierra Leone and Rwanda.

The Chief Minister of the Republic of Sierra Leone; Dr. David Moinina Sengeh has, on Tuesday 3rd September 2024, held a productive meeting with the Prime Minister of Rwanda; Édouard Ngirente. During the meeting, the two Ministers agreed to accelerate the implementation of existing agreements and MOUs between Sierra Leone and Rwanda.

While addressing the forum on the topic: Sierra Leone Legacy Program; Country Dealroom Launch, the Chief Minister of Sierra Leone said that building an inclusive food system is key to a sustainable future for Africa.
