NMDHR Spreads the MAC-HPV Sensitization Message # in Karene District
Karene District, Sierra Leone – As part of its ongoing public awareness drive ahead of the national HPV Multi-Age Cohort (MAC) vaccination campaign, the Network Movement for Democracy and Human Rights (NMDHR) is continuing an intensive sensitization exercise in Karene District, pasting informative posters in schools and higher learning institutions while engaging pupils on the importance of the HPV vaccine.
The initiative forms part of NMDHR’s broader support to the Ministry of Health (MoH) in collaboration with the Expanded Program on Immunization, the DHMT and with support from GAVI in promoting the HPV-MAC campaign scheduled from 17th to 23rd November 2025, which aims to protect girls aged 9 to 18 from the human papillomavirus that causes cervical cancer.
During the engagement sessions, NMDHR visited several schools in Karene where they also held few interactive discussions with pupils, teachers, and school health clubs on the importance of the HPV vaccine. The pupils were encouraged to serve as ambassadors by sharing accurate information about the vaccine with their parents, peers, and communities.
According to NMDHR’s Programs Director, Nabieu Kamara the poster campaign and school sensitizations are designed to raise awareness and dispel myths and misinformation surrounding the HPV vaccine.
“Our goal is to ensure that every eligible girl in Karene District understands the value of taking the HPV vaccine and feels confident and informed to participate in the national campaign,” Mr. Kamara explained.
The posters, placed in strategic locations such as school walls, notice boards, and colleges, carry key messages including “Prevent Cervical Cancer. Get Vaccinated Now.”
Teachers and pupils expressed appreciation for NMDHR’s outreach efforts, noting that the posters will help remind them about the dates of the vaccination.
As Sierra Leone prepares for the nationwide HPV-MAC campaign in November, NMDHR continues to emphasize that community engagement, information sharing, and youth participation remain key to achieving full immunization coverage and protecting future generations of women.
