Freetown proudly welcomed the Joint Committee of the ECOWAS Parliament on a significant mission focused on protecting children in street situations and combating child exploitation across the ECOWAS region.
This important visit highlights a united regional commitment to safeguarding the rights, dignity, and future of some of the most vulnerable children in our communities.
The engagement brought together key stakeholders and partners including Street Child, Don Bosco, Future Focus Foundation, Laughter Africa, St George’s Foundation, and the Network for Street Children Sierra Leone—all working tirelessly to create safer, more inclusive environments for children.
Through dialogue, field engagement, and shared experiences, the visit emphasized practical parliamentary approaches, policy strengthening, and collaborative action to address the root causes of child vulnerability and exploitation.
Together, we are amplifying voices, strengthening systems, and advancing a future where every child is protected, valued, and given the opportunity to thrive.

Future Focus Foundation lines up activities to celebrate the International Day for Street Children-IDSC 2026
On 6th April 2026, Future Focus Foundation brought together twenty street-connected children for a Focus Group Discussion centered around this year's IDSC2026 theme Protect Not Punish: strengthening access to justice for street-connected children,
In his opening statement, the National Team Lead and CEO. Amb. Sylvestre Sidie Mohamed Kallon explained to participants that an estimated 76,000 children in street situation in Sierra Leone continue to face extreme family poverty, exploitation and violence serving as significant barriers to the full enjoyment of their fundamental human rights including lack of access to justice.
He furthered that street-connected children are forgotten and excluded from development programmes as there are no no substantive data that captures them for essential services such as education, health, protection etc.
He encouraged participants to share their lived experiences and suggest ways they would like government, development partners and communities to address the situation.
He ended up on the note that the good news is that issues of street-connected children has gradually started to gain recognition mentioning the work of the regional advocacy platform he West Africa Strategic Advocacy Group-WASAG that has triggered international and regional attention such as the inclusion of children in street situations in the report of the UN Special Rapateur on Sexual Exploitation and Abuse of Children; the recent UPR Recommendations on Ghana; and the visit of the ECOWAS Parliament to Sierra Leone on Parliamentary approaches to Safeguarding Children in Street Situations among others.
He assured the children that sustained regional advocacy particularly on access to justice for street-connected children by WASAG will yield dividend of inclusion.
