ENTOTO. The garden. 🪴 Built with a blend of earth bricks and concrete, ENTOTO embraces both tradition and modernity. The textured brick façades and shaded balconies create a warm, timeless character while integrating green terraces that breathe life into the vertical form.

Originally, the orientation of the building would have exposed residents to the harsh setting sun—but through careful design, ENTOTO is now oriented to take advantage of the north–south openings and cross ventilation.

“Designed as a response to the growing need for schools in southern Senegal, this concept blends sustainable construction with child-centered design. Built with local earth, shaded by a passive double-roof system, and cooled by natural ventilation, the project creates a safe, inspiring space for learning. Rainwater harvesting, compost toilets, and a central garden courtyard make it both ecological and empowering — a model for future rural schools.”
