The Federal Parliament of Somalia has ratified the African Charter on the Rights & Welfare of the Child, becoming the 52nd African country to do so.

𝐖𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐆𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐒𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐚 𝐢𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐰 𝐥𝐞𝐠𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐨𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨:

📚 Align national laws with the Charter.
📑 Report progress to the Africa Committee on Child Rights.
👫 Promote child participation and eliminate harmful practices.

2. Right to Education – Guaranteeing equal access to quality education for all children.

3. Health and Nutrition – Providing adequate healthcare, food, and clean environments to support healthy development.

4. Emotional Well-being – Ensuring children receive love, care, and psychological support.

5. Participation – Recognizing children’s voices and allowing them to participate in decisions that affect their lives.

6. Legal Frameworks – Governments must enforce laws and policies that protect children’s rights.
