The Chairperson of the AU Commission, H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, today received H.E. Akuei Bona Malwal, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs & International Cooperation of the Republic of South Sudan.

Discussions focused on the regional situation & the imperative of African-led, dialogue-based solutions. The Chairperson underscored the importance of the timely & full implementation of the R-ARCSS, including constitutional processes, elections, & national cohesion in South Sudan.

They also exchanged views on Abyei, emphasising the need for a durable & mutually acceptable resolution, as well as on the conflict in Sudan & its regional implications, calling for an urgent , cessation of hostilities, & a return to constitutional order.

The Chairperson commended South Sudan for its continued solidarity in hosting Sudanese refugees.

H.E. Akuei Bona Malwal thanked the Chairperson for his leadership role & his support towards peace & stability in the region, & in South Sudan.

Kenya pledges support for South Sudan's elections, focusing on capacity building for the electoral agency. The move aims to strengthen democratic processes and ensure peaceful outcomes in the upcoming polls. Tut Gatluak Manime, Presidential Special Envoy, met Kenyan President in Nairobi, carrying a message from President Salva Kiir Mayardit.
