Bad news ever
Central Bank authorities say the country has run out of foreign reserves making it unable to tackle the depreciation of the local currency. The bank’s second deputy governor, Daniel Kech Pouch, says this is due to the presence of the parallel exchange market. Currently, there are different exchange rates in the market including the official rate and the black-market rate.
As a result, this has contributed to a hike in commodity prices. Daniel says this has made it difficult to stop the fluctuation.
Daniel Kech said this has prompted the country’s apex bank to seek help from the International Monetary Fund, IMF.
