Many South Sudanese Citizens will face a lot of challenges in Kenya as the foreign Mission remains silent.

Last month date 17th July 2024, Kenya Government notified South Sudan embassy in Nairobi for new charges which included overstaying and renewing visa, the charges did not sit well with South Sudanese residing in Kenya.

Three years ago, 26th July 2021, East African Community swaps the visa fees for its citizens that allow EAC partners states visa Free entry for citizens of other states, fostering business activities and internal trade. This month it came as the surprise to South Sudanese citizens living in Kenya for the purpose of education, it's like this, in embassy of South Sudan the travel documents is Ksh 1500 which is $12, the embassy can direct you to go to the nearest cyber and apply online for exit visa, that process can cost you Ksh 650 which is $6, the exit visa is being issued at Nyayo House, Kenya Foreign Nationals service with Ksh 6000 equivalent to $50.
Now the whole process can cost you $68.
back to the old days Between 2021-2023 that process can only cost you $12 before online visa application and exit visa new fee.

Kenya Police has long record of disrespecting and harassing South Sudanese who live in Kenya including Refugees despite their apparent legalities status.
In 2014 a Kenya Police man can stop any South Sudan citizen walking on street like humble person by greeting you '' we msudi abari yako'' you Sudanese how are you? The next thing is, Ibu nisaidie na ID yako. assist me with your ID. They never stop there they hunt down South Sudanese from door to door in their crowded residential areas, like Donholm, Nyaya State, Kasarani and Jamhuri. The police always questioned the identity of South Sudanese knowing that they will definitely make money out of it later. If you produce your ID they ask you again, where's your passport, even though if you have a passport with valid visa they still demand you to support your documents which may lead you to bribe them with the little things you have. while in South Sudan their citizens own multi million of dollars businesses. hotels, Money transfers Service and Apartments yet some of them do not have neither work permits nor business licenses.

Kenya is the number one in East Africa with the best quality of education, In 2017, Kenya's education system was rated as the strongest among other forty three mainland countries on the African continent by the World Economic Forum. In the following year 2018, the World Bank also ranked Kenya as the top African country for education outcomes. This motivates South Sudanese politicians and business people to invest in Kenya education.

Apart from that, For the last 30 years, Kenya has hosted more than 300,000 refugees from South Sudan, While most live in the Kakuma, Kalobayie and Dadaab refugee camps, a minority—more than 45,000 refugees—live in urban areas. Nairobi, Eldoret, Nakuru and Kitale.

Kenya have story in South Sudan independent, The Comprehensive Peace Agreement CPA which was signed in Naivasha on 9th January 2005 was the only meant to end the Second Sudanese Civil War, develop democratic governance countrywide, and share oil revenues. It also set a timetable for a Southern Sudanese independence referendum.

The CPA required that at the end of a six-year period, in January 2011, a referendum on independence be held, allowing the people of southern Sudan the opportunity to choose between perpetuating the power-sharing agreement or opting for full independence through secession from the north.
To cut the long story short, Kenya Government deserves to be appreciated by South Sudanese people but now it's like they're taking advantage of us. The new charges targeting only South Sudan citizens leaving behind the rest of East Africa Community Citizens.
We are so impatient to hear from Our President H.E Salva Kiir who's also the Chairperson of East Africa Community about the motive behind of the Charges which will jeopardize the relationship of two Countries South Sudan and Kenya.
Our biggest worries very soon many people will end up in jail like what happened two months ago when the Multi Agency Police arrested a young man Mr Duop and her Mother Nyatut In Garissa County which were later released from prison with Ksh 30,000 bills, thank to Chielang Community and Biakel Culture Group under Eastern Jikany Nuer Community in Kenya.
As the future leaders of this Country it's our responsibility to protect and rest any concerns that may put the life of citizens in risk.
We must therefore remember that the politics stop at the water's edge. When we are out there we share the same blood under one flag.
