Budi County authorities in Eastern Equatoria State say gold mining companies have begun road construction works on the Road linking Kapoeta and Ngauro, aimed at improving transport access in the area.

Commissioner Julis Amin Ben told Singaita 88.3 FM that the works began on Monday under Dr. Wang, through the Eastern Equatoria Mining Corporation and Prudential Company.

He said the project is expected to ease movement and support local development in the county.

In a related development, the commissioner also announced a new memorandum of understanding with a recently arrived gold mining company, which has been granted ten years by the national government and five years by the community to operate and contribute to local development alongside mining activities.

The Kapoeta Local Football Association says it has started preparations for the upcoming Ateker competition, with hopes of bringing the cup to South Sudan.

The association Secretary General Farouk Lino says the ongoing preparation is aimed at identifying and selecting the best players to form competitive team.

He says the initiative follows previous participation in Kenya, where the team finished third, and is now focused on improving performance against regional rivals.

The competition brings together teams from South Sudan (Toposa), Karamoja in Uganda, Turkana in Kenya, and Nyangatom in Ethiopia.

Lino says the current selection process involves four teams, with coaches and secretaries reviewing players before final squads are formed.

He adds that the process will be concluded next week, followed by friendly matches to prepare the selected players.

The final squad will later represent South Sudan at the Ateker competition expected to be held in Uganda later this year, with officials expressing hope of winning the trophy for South Sudan.
