Airtime Vendor Shot Dead by Police in Bentiu

An airtime vendor has been shot dead by a police officer inside Bentiu IDP Camp in Unity State.

The incident happened on Tuesday morning in Sector Two, Block Seven. The victim identified as Lony Kuok Chuol was a resident of the camp originally from Mayiendit County was rushed to Bentiu Hospital but later died from his injuries.

Unity State Police Spokesperson John Malieth confirmed the shooting and said the officer involved has been arrested as investigations continue. He noted that the killing was not intentional, though circumstances remain under review.

Community leaders say the incident has shocked residents. Plans are underway to transport the body to Mayiendit County for burial.

Authorities say further details will be released as investigations progress.
