โครงการ StAR Project Thailand งานเพาะพันธ์ฉลามเสือดาว เพื่อฟื้นฟูประชากรในธรรมชาติ เปิดตัวอย่างเป็นทางการในไทย

เป็นโครงการที่สองของโลกถัดจากอินโดนีเซีย ภายใต้ร่ม ReShark ที่ดำเนินงานโดยการร่วมมือกันจาก หลายองค์กร ผู้ประกอบการและหน่วยงานรัฐ

จากโครงการวิทยาศาสตร์พลเมือง สู่ โครงการอนุรักษ์และฟื้นฟูประชากรฉลามเสือดาวใกล้สูญพันธุ์ในไทย
เมื่อปี 2013 โครงการวิทยาศาสตร์พลเมือง Spot the Leopard Shark-Thailand เริ่มต้นครั้งแรก ณ เกาะพีพี จากความร่วมมือระหว่าง ดร.คริสติน ดัดเจียนและดร.ก้องเกียรติ กิตติวัฒนาวงศ์ ต่อมาในปี 2024 องค์กรไวล์ดเอด (WildAid) ร่วมกับโอเชี่ยน บลู ทรี (Ocean Blue Tree) สานต่อโครงการนี้ให้กลับมาอีกครั้ง โดยได้รับความร่วมมือเป็นอย่างดีจากชุมชนนักดำน้ำ จึงทำให้ปัจจุบันโครงการสามารถระบุฉลามเสือดาวได้ 278 ตัว จากการรวมข้อมูลทั้งสองช่วงการสำรวจ
ข้อมูลดังกล่าวทำให้มองเห็นโอกาสฟื้นฟูประชากรฉลามเสือดาวในประเทศไทย และเป็นจุดเริ่มต้นของ โครงการ StAR Project Thailand หรือ โครงการอนุรักษ์และฟื้นฟูประชากรฉลามเสือดาว
(𝙎𝙩𝙚𝙜𝙤𝙨𝙩𝙤𝙢𝙖 𝙩𝙞𝙜𝙧𝙞𝙣𝙪𝙢 Augmentation and Recovery Project: StAR Project Thailand) โดยมีเป้าหมายเพื่อฟื้นฟูประชากรฉลามเสือดาวในถิ่นอาศัยเดิม ในน่านน้ำไทย ด้วยวิธีการเพาะเลี้ยงและปล่อยกลับคืนสู่ธรรมชาติ (rewilding)
โดยโครงการ StAR Project Thailand เป็นการขยายผลและต่อยอดจากโครงการ StAR Project Indonesia ริเริ่มโดย ReShark ซึ่งประสบความสำเร็จเป็นอย่างดีในการฟื้นฟูประชากรฉลามเสือดาวที่หมู่เกาะราชาอัมพัต ประเทศอินโดนีเซีย
เนื่องด้วยประเทศไทยมีปัจจัยที่เอื้อต่อการผลักดันการอนุรักษ์ฉลามเสือดาวในหลายด้าน ยกตัวอย่างเช่นการที่สองพื้นที่ในประเทศไทยได้รับการรับรองให้เป็นพื้นที่สำคัญของฉลามเสือดาว (ISRAs) รวมถึงการที่ฉลามเสือดาวถูกขึ้นบัญชีให้เป็นสัตว์ป่าคุ้มครองตามพระราชบัญญัติสงวนและคุ้มครองสัตว์ป่า พ.ศ. 2562 ตลอดจนการได้รับความร่วมมือเป็นอย่างดีจากชุมชนนักดำน้ำและประชาชนทั่วไปในการมีส่วนร่วมสนับสนุนโครงการวิทยาศาสตร์พลเมือง Spot the Leopard Shark - Thailand
โครงการ StAR Project Thailand เป็นความร่วมมือขององค์กรไม่แสวงหากำไร ภาครัฐ ภาคเอกชน และกลุ่มอนุรักษ์ฉลาม ได้แก่ WildAid Thailand ช่วยสัตว์ป่า , Ocean Blue Tree, ReShark , กรมทรัพยากรทางทะเลและชายฝั่ง, กรมอุทยานแห่งชาติ สัตว์ป่า และพันธุ์พืช, ประชาสัมพันธ์ กรมประมง(DoF), Aquaria Phuket และ Maiton Private Island - Phuket นักวิจัยฉลามและกระเบนกลุ่ม Thai Sharks and Rays เพื่อให้การฟื้นฟูประชากรฉลามเสือดาวในประเทศไทยเป็นไปตามหลักการทางวิทยาศาสตร์ และผลักดันให้มาตรการคุ้มครองฉลามเสือดาวเป็นไปอย่างมีประสิทธิภาพ
ทั้งนี้ หวังว่าจะได้รับความร่วมมือจากทุกคนในการสนับสนุนโครงการ StAR Project Thailand เพราะทุกการมีส่วนร่วมคือความหวังของการอนุรักษ์ฉลามเสือดาวในประเทศไทย

From a citizen science to Thailand’s first endangered shark rewilding initiative
In 2013, the citizen science project Spot the Leopard Shark-Thailand was first launched in Phi Phi Island, Thailand as a collaborative project between Dr Christine Dudgeon and Dr Kongkiat Kitiwattanawong. In 2024, WildAid, in collaboration with Ocean Blue Tree, revived the project with strong support from the diving community. As a result, the project has successfully identified 278 individual leopard sharks with data collected from two important sources spanning both time periods.
These findings provided a strong foundation for launching the StAR Project Thailand (𝙎𝙩𝙚𝙜𝙤𝙨𝙩𝙤𝙢𝙖 𝙩𝙞𝙜𝙧𝙞𝙣𝙪𝙢 Augmentation and Recovery), the country’s first initiative to recover endangered leopard sharks through rewilding in their natural Thai habitats.
The StAR project Thailand expands on the success of the StAR Project Indonesia, initiated by ReShark, which achieved the world’s first rewilding of leopard sharks in Raja Ampat, Indonesia.
Thailand has several key factors that support the conservation of leopard sharks, including the recognition of two areas in Thailand as Important Shark and Ray Areas (ISRAs), as well as the listing of leopard sharks as protected wildlife under the Wildlife Conservation and Protection Act B.E. 2562 (2019). Additionally, active engagement from both the diving community and the general public in supporting and participating in the citizen science project Spot the Leopard Shark - Thailand proves vital in the study of Thailand’s leopard shark population.
The StAR Project Thailand is a collaboration between non-profit organizations, government agencies, the private sector, and shark conservation groups. These included WildAid, Ocean Blue Tree, ReShark, the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources (DMCR), the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation (DNP), the Department of Fisheries (DoF), Aquaria Phuket, and Maiton Resort, ensuring that the leopard shark recovery effort is grounded in science and contributes to effective long-term protection measures.

ที่น่าสนใจมากๆ ว่าทำไมจึงมีจุดหมายที่ประเทศไทย ทั้งๆ ตลาดบริโภคใหญ่อยู่ที่จีน และของล็อตนี้แวะที่จีนก่อน แต่ถูกส่งต่อมาที่ไทย แต่สิ่งหนึ่งที่ชัดเจนคือความต้องการบริโภคหูฉลามยังคงมีอยู่และคุกคามความอยู่รอดของฉลามโดยตรง
