Digital Law PRO - PDPA / GDPR

China passes its Personal Information Protection Law (PIPL). However, on the surface, the fundamental protection principles are the same as the EU GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) and the Thai PDPA (Data Protection Act).

The law's main purpose is to employer data subject on the use of their personal data in many ways. Consent to collect and process data will be required. Data controllers and data processors have to follow strict compliance rules before collecting and processing customers' personal information.

While restricting the private sector's capacity to collect and process personal data, the law seems to reinforce the Chinese central government's power on personal data mining and processing.
