KING CHARLES III’S BIRTHDAY CELEBRATED IN ANKARA
The British Embassy in Ankara hosted a National Day reception on 11 June to celebrate the official birthday of His Majesty King Charles III and the long-standing partnership between the United Kingdom and Türkiye.
The event was attended by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Levent Gümrükçü, representatives of diplomatic missions based in Ankara, as well as leaders from the business, cultural, educational and civil society sectors.
British Ambassador Jill Morris highlighted the significance of the event, noting that it marked the official celebrations of His Majesty’s 78th birthday. She stated that the event offered an opportunity not only to celebrate the United Kingdom’s National Day but also to emphasise the deep friendship and cooperation between the United Kingdom and Türkiye.
This year’s reception was organised under the theme “A Midsummer Night’s Dream: Visiting Britain”. The theme focuses on imagination, cultural exchange and shared heritage. It highlights the human connections that bind the UK and Türkiye together, particularly through tourism, and strengthen social ties.
Every year, millions of visitors travel between the two countries, strengthening mutual understanding and relations. Both nations are home to a wealth of UNESCO World Heritage sites, reflecting a shared commitment to preserving history and culture, ranging from globally recognised landmarks such as Ephesus and Cappadocia in Türkiye to Stonehenge and Cardiff in the UK.
The reception also showcased the exceptional performing arts talent of both countries.
Guests watched performances by talented musicians and dancers from the Hacettepe University Ankara State Conservatoire and, thanks to a special performance by West End star Christine Allado—known for her role in *Hamilton*—were able to experience the magic of London’s theatre stages right here in Ankara.
