Draft Surveying is an internationally recognized technical method used in the maritime and logistics industry to calculate the amount of cargo (weight) a ship can carry. It is fundamentally based on Archimedes' Principle (the buoyancy force of water). Simply put, a ship sinks further into the water when loaded, and rises toward the surface when unloaded. Draft Surveying determines the weight of the cargo by measuring these sinking and rising rates.
