“İzzet-i İslâmiyedir ki, i'lâ-yı Kelimetullahı ilân ediyor. Ve bu zamanda i'lâ-yı Kelimetullah, maddeten terakkiye mütevakkıf ve medeniyet-i hakikiyeye girmekle i'lâ-yı Kelimetullah edilebilir.” BEDİÜZZAMAN SAİD NURSİ (R.A.)

When Einstein 🧠 met quantum physics ⚛️!

On this day, 118 years ago, Einstein published his work on the photoelectric effect.

But the journey of understanding this intriguing phenomenon began in the early 19th century when Alexandre Becquerel discovered the photovoltaic effect. His findings sparked a dialogue about the relationship between light and the electronic properties of materials.

Fast forward to 1873, when Willoughby Smith’s discovery of photoconductivity in selenium opened new horizons in the understanding of this relationship. Johann Elster and Hans Gittel then set the practical ball rolling, developing the first usable photoelectric cells to quantify light intensity.💡

But the real game changer came in 1887 when Heinrich Hertz observed the photoelectric effect for the first time. This observation was the trailhead leading to a new scientific mountain summit. In 1900, Max Planck dropped a revolutionary theory on the scientific community. He suggested that light wasn't a continuous wave but a stream of tiny energy packets or "quanta," which we now call "photons".🌠

Building on this foundation, Albert Einstein ventured a step further. He proposed each photon carried an energy proportional to its frequency - a relationship determined by what is now known as Planck’s constant. He applied this understanding to develop a mathematical description of how the photoelectric effect could occur with the absorption of photons beyond a threshold frequency.🌈

Einstein's theory of the photoelectric effect, a deep dive into how light prompts the emission of electrons from certain materials, was published in Annalen der Physik on June 9, 1905. This was part of his groundbreaking series, the Annus Mirabilis papers, marking a watershed moment in physics.
