Anyone who has seen a sheet hanging near the sea will have seen the exact moment when the wind, which is invisible, reveals itself. It is there, beneath the fabric, like the ghost of the east wind, the west wind, the south wind, or the north wind, lending its body to gusts to move boats, raise waves, hold birds aloft, or dry clothes. Tireless, fickle, unstoppable; capable of driving us crazy, of howling rather than whistling, of turning water into foam and making light become solid. As solid as a building.
