“The Last Warner Woman” by Kei Miller
The Last Warner Woman is a powerful work of Caribbean fiction that follows the life of Adamine Bustamante, a Jamaican woman born in one of the island's last l***r colonies. As she grows older, she discovers she possesses the gift of "warning"—the ability to foresee danger and deliver prophetic messages through the Revivalist faith. However, when she migrates to England, her spiritual gifts are misunderstood as signs of mental illness, and she is confined to a psychiatric hospital. Years later, Adamine recounts her life to a young writer known as "Mr. Writer Man," but she soon realizes that the truth of her story is being shaped and challenged by someone else's perspective.
