From a dance and fitness enthusiastâŚ.
Did you know that fitness is an essential ingredient to human health: physical, mental and emotional? Well, let me attempt to paint this picture for you in a few words.
My name is Loice Okoth, my friends call me Loicita and my brand name is Loicita Zumba. I am a skilled and passionate Zumba instructor and a certified fitness professional residing in the hot and beautiful lakeside Kisumu City.
I started working out way back in 2016, I loved aerobics class and steps too, although steps were a bit challenging, the coordination is just something else. In 2017, the gym timetable was adjusted as they were introducing Zumba fitness for the first time.I did not like it because I was a poor dancer! I had never danced my whole life and I believed I had âtwo left feetâ. I knew Zumba was meant for those who know how to dance. To evade this, I changed my workout schedule to continue with my normal routine. This meant inconvenience since I had to buy an extra hour waiting for Zumba to be completed so I could workout.
One day it occurred to me that I could try out this Zumba thing and the worst that could happen was I wouldnât get the moves, then what? Nothing! So I started the classes as an enduring back bencher while the front liners enjoyed moving and singing along to the music. I didnât get the drift.
One fine day I gathered courage and moved to the front lane. I was determined to make the mistakes then learn. I think I was starting to get hooked and with time I practiced at home using Youtube and mastered the step. After 2 months, I was that dancer, moving to the beat and accurately so. But this was not enough, Zumba was calling me to learn more. I researched around my new addiction and followed the famous Zumba instructors via social media. I was inspired and on faya!
Now on the other side of me and Zumba; is an engineer and supply chain professional making big strides in this world. I enrolled for a professional course in 2019 and this would be the ultimate test for my new found love. I would leave work at about 5 pm, go for classes for an hour (instead of 2) on gym days. I would always arrive late and find the gym full. The determined inspired me would push my way through to the front row. Then the front-liners would give me that look (yeah that one) and I would act as though nothing happened. At this point, Zumba was a real addiction. I would practice a lot in the house and the playlist in my phone was just full of Latin music and Afrobeats. I was starting to feel that I was made for Zumba, actually Zumba and I were speaking the same language.
I took Zumba fitness instructor training on 13th April, 2019 in Nairobi and since then, it has been my burning desire to share my passion for Zumba and fitness with those around me and beyond. I started classes in October 2019 at Nairobi University Kisumu Campus and the classes have been amazing. I love all the ups and downs that have accompanied the journey.
I love working out. I do it to keep fit and I sometimes do morning runs (but I donât enjoy running as much). I love sit ups, squats, lunges and bur-pees, and it is very easy for me to incorporate this in my Zumba workouts. I admire women like Shakira, JLo and Beyonce who have maintained good physique through working out consistently, and a good diet (since fitness is 80% diet). These women who have achieved extraordinarily in life remind me that the only hindrance to my success in whatever I want is me. With time I have realized fitness shapes your confidence and being confident is just sexy. And who doesnât fancy a sexy confident individual who is ready to take on the world. Fitness clarifies the mind and inspires an energy that can solve even the hardest of problems. And that is what I want to share with you. Join me, walk with me, letâs dance, move, keep fit and conquer the world.
