Its venom is approximately 180 times stronger than that of a cobra. [2] 5. The eyelids of snakes are transparent and remain permanently closed. [1] 6. Snakes can hibernate under unfavorable conditions. [1] 7. As of 2017, 3631 species of snakes are known to science. [1] 8. Snakes have no bladder - urine from the ureters flows directly into the cloaca.
Snakes are descended from lizards. Among living lizards, their closest relatives are iguana and fusiform.
