An intense interaction occurred recently between the Ntambara group and the Segasira group in Volcanoes National Park. Gorillas from both groups stood close to each other. All the males were displaying and charging, while others were loudly screaming, making the scene appear very alarming.

Segasira, the only adult male in his group, was forced to handle a clear numerical disadvantage, facing four males from the Ntambara group, which is also much larger overall, with 16 gorillas compared to the 9 in Segasira’s group. Despite this, he worked hard to keep the females and infants safe.

Both groups have very young infants, which may explain the high level of tension during the interaction. Fortunately, the encounter ended without any injuries or consequences. 🦍
