When Sir David Attenborough met with our Founder and CEO, Dr. Gladys Kalema-Zikusoka in 2011, he told her that he regretted getting too close to the mountain gorillas in 1978.
In Sir David's defence, it was the gorillas who got too close to him, and it was in January 1978, years before the rules were established, so no rules were broken!
Even after becoming one of the world’s greatest natural historians, Sir David Attenborough never stopped learning.
For over 70 years, he has dedicated his life to advocating for the protection of our natural world. He helped humanity fall in love with it, and when people love something, they protect it.
That may be one of the greatest gifts anyone has ever given this planet.
Happy 100th birthday, Sir David Attenborough!
