The Uganda Alcohol Industry Association has raised a red flag over the proposed Alcohol Control Bill, arguing that it would cripple the economy if passed into law.

During a meeting with State Minister for Trade David Bahati and State Minister for Investment Evelyne Anite, the Association’s Secretary General Ms. Jackie Tahakanizibwa urged Parliament to prioritize addressing the 65% of unregulated alcohol brewers in the sector before considering the bill.

The two rival factions of the Opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party have announced separate mobilisation events as each bids to garner nationwide support ahead of the 2026 General Election.

The Katonga faction has announced elections of new leaders at village level come December 9 while their coun- terparts at Najjanankumbi are on a nationwide mobilisation drive to recruit new party members. Mr Michael Kabaziguruka, the interim electoral commission chairperson for the Katonga faction, revealed yesterday that the elections are targeting new local leaders from 36,000 villages countrywide.

The fatal accident that occurred Sunday afternoon involved two motor vehicles UBN375Q Subaru Forester white in colour and UBP314A Taxi Hiace white in colour.

Justice and Constitution-al Affairs Minister Norbert Mao has said the 48-hour constitutional rule in which to take a suspect to court or be released on bond should be maintained.

Minister Mao argued that personal liberties are very important and that it is not correct to amend the law and extend the 48-hour holding period for suspects.
