Pope Leo XIV met privately with the heads of the Synod continental bodies on Thursday, at the conclusion of three days of work dedicated to the implementation phase of the Synod.

Held on June 23-25, the meeting brought together representatives from Latin America, Africa, Asia, Europe, Oceania, the Middle East, and North America, accompanied by the coordinators of the continental synodal teams.

Cardinal Mario Grech, Secretary General of the Synod, described the encounter with the Pope as “a strong sign of support and encouragement” for participants as they continue their work “for the synodal conversion of the Church.”

It is with deep sorrow that we have received the news of the passing of Rev. Fr. Viatory Muvunyi. We extend our heartfelt condolences to His Grace the Archbishop of Kampala, the clergy, the family of Fr. Muvunyi, the community of Kiziba Parish, and all who were touched by his life and ministry.

Fr. Muvunyi dedicated his life to serving God and His people, especially through his work as a teacher at Uganda Martyrs National Seminary, Alokolum. His commitment, faith, and service have left a lasting impact on the Church and the many lives he influenced.

During this time of grief, we pray that the Lord grants you comfort, strength, and peace. May the Almighty and Merciful God welcome his servant into eternal rest and reward him for his faithful service.

“Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace. Amen.”

"Love is the language that makes everyone feel at home"
At the meeting with the diocesan community of Madrid, Leo XIV invited to make "listening and dialogue the common ground on which to grow justice and fraternity".
"In big cities, more than in other places, sometimes it seems to us that we no longer have the maps to move safely," the Pope said, inviting to "offer the evangelical witness that awakens the best forces of humanity bombarded by images and words, but hungry for justice and thirsty for truth".
In the end, he made the following exclamation:
"Be to everyone like an open Bible: that the Word of God can be found on their faces and in their lives. Love, in fact, is the language that makes everyone feel at home. ”
