About DAFI
The formation of DAFI was inspired by ten years work of a mother of a child with Cerebral Palsy. Leon Makanga was born on 28th December 2007 by Christine Bukirwa Musisi. After two years we discovered Leon’s condition and what it required. By then people including relatives had started calling our handsome boy “names” and pressurizing us to have a “real” child! With sustained therapy Leon who couldn’t do anything on his own started moving his body, reaching for things, playing around, crawling, and happiness that had eluded the house started surfacing slowly. Right now Leon is in primary one, he can use a computer by himself, and does many other amazing things much as he hasn’t walked and still struggling with speech.
That success story was the motivation and inspiration to start the Differently Abled Friends Initiative to support other children and their parents to live their lives to the fullest in spite of having such conditions.
DAFI provides services like therapy, counselling, awareness creation, and empowering parents / guardians taking care of children with special needs.
