Dear Reader
Most people come to the office with the mindset of working productively, and accomplishing certain tasks throughout the day.
However, after stopping by to chat with a few colleagues, having a cup of tea, perusing through daily emails, daydreaming, and getting distracted by text messages and other employees, the day seems to end without much getting done.
If this scenario is common in your working life, you need to improve your concentration to be able to focus on work-related goals, and get them done quickly and efficiently.
Follow these three tips to help you improve your concentration:
1. Limit Distractions
Certain individuals can tune everything out and focus on their workload, while others have a harder time doing so.
When you are first trying to ignore your distractions, the easiest way to get around that is to limit them.
When you have set aside time to work on a specific problem, close down any social media websites, exit out of your email, turn your mobile on silent and close your door.
Eliminating any outside noise and temptations to check an incoming text will encourage you to continue working on the task at hand.
2. Prioritise
Oftentimes, managers feel overwhelmed because they are handling so many things at one time.
This forces them to drop one thing to focus on another, which ends up being an endless cycle that leaves no single task effectively done.
To avoid this, prioritise your goals in order to give your full concentration to each and every one.
Every day, make a list of the most pressing items to focus on first, and then checking other items that can be worked on later.
3. Reward Yourself
If you are not used to truly sitting down and working without diverting your attention, help yourself succeed at it by giving yourself small rewards.
It is difficult to completely change your behaviour overnight; if you find yourself distracted by wanting to check your page, for example, allow yourself to do that, just in due

This painting of a young woman breastfeeding an old man in a prison cell was sold for Euros 30 million. The painting may look perverse but the story behind is from historical records.
The poor man was sentenced to "death by starvation" for stealing a loaf of bread during the reign of Louis XIV in France. The woman was his only daughter and the only visitor to his cell. She was allowed to visit him daily but was frisked thoroughly such that no food was taken in.
When after 4 months the man still survgived with no weight loss, the authorities were perplexed and started spying on her in the cell and to their utter astonishment found her to breastfeed her father to the fullest sharing her baby's milk. The judges then realizing the compassion and love of the woman for her father, pardoned the father and set him free.
This piece of history brings into focus how deep is a woman's compassion in our daily lives that men often tend to overlook..
Most people feel helpless. As if they have no control of their life.
In truth, you have more control over that world than you think.
It has been said that luck is what happens when opportunity meets preparedness.
Imagine two men walking down the street on a windy day. A piece of paper blows along the sidewalk in front of one man, then the other. The first man ignores the litter, keeping his eyes on the block up ahead.
The second man peers at the scrap, realizes it’s a $20 bill, and picks it up.
Is that person luckier?
No. The same opportunity crossed the path of both men, but only one of them was prepared to act.
When it comes to financial matters, it’s important to keep your eyes and ears open, and to know where you are. Only then will you spot opportunity when it crosses your path.
REALITIES OF RETIREMENT
1) You are no longer popular in your office.
2) Avoid going to your former office without invitation. Where it's absolutely necessary inform an officer of your visit so that you can be received.
3) Know that not everyone liked you while at work & now have an opportunity to snob you.
4) Keep in touch with your coursemates as you grow in retirement because some Pharaohs in Egypt may not know your Joseph.
5) Attend celebration of coursemates. Its always a reunion with lots of fun.
6) Only a few of the people you assisted (including family members) will come around to see you often. To others you have nothing to offer.
7)Plan your days & follow your plan. Sometimes when you look at your uniform with all the medals, you have a feeling of emptiness. Get yourself occupied.
8) Traveling is great, visit places of interest and enjoy your travels.
9) Eat right, enjoy your meals but down on excessive consumption of alcohol, sugar, salt, fats and oils.
10) Do your medical check-up even when you feel healthy.
Enjoy your retirement.
