We had a good time with family and friends at Shadyside Dragway this weekend, but the racing part didn’t go like we hoped it would! We had made some changes to the engine for the last race and wanted to test some on Friday night (something we usually don’t do). I made a run and the car shook the tires hard, went to the right and we didn’t get any useful data. I just thought the track was tighter Friday night than it would be in the sun Saturday so we didn’t make any adjustments. Saturday Q1 we tried it again and it shook even worse. We made multiple adjustments and put down an A to B pass just to get qualified and ended up #2 qualifier. Going into eliminations we made more adjustments but when I let the clutch out the left side of the car raised up and the car was very unstable to say the least! I was able to make it down the track and get the win and when I got back to the pits we discovered that the right ladder bar was broken in half. The safety strap saved me from wrecking the car! Shadyside Dragway had a welder in their shop and we rushed up there to weld it up for second round. We couldn’t square it up or set the preload so we just had to hope for the best. The preload was definitely off because when I dumped the clutch it went hard left crossing the center line barely past the 60 foot block.
The good news is that nobody got hurt in any of this and we got to be with our Southeast Gassers Association family and friends on a beautiful day that the Lord Jesus blessed us with!
