City of Aberdeen Public Service Announcement Update.

Dear Residents,
Here is a summary of the water status:

Boil Order: Instituted due to empty water towers after a water main break.

Current Actions: Aberdeen Water Works staff are collecting water samples for contamination testing, which will be sent to the state lab in Pierre.

Expected Outcome: If tests are negative, the boil order could be lifted as early as tomorrow.

System Status: Water distribution is functioning, but there's a ten-foot difference in water levels between the north tower and the two southern towers.

Impact: Reduced storage capacity in the south part of town.

Request: Limit water usage, especially for irrigation, if possible

Thank you.

The City of Aberdeen announces a precautionary boil water advisory to customers served water by the Aberdeen Public Works Department.

Because of a water main break on a large diameter water pipeline, a boil water advisory has been issued. The location of the break has been identified and work is underway to make repairs.

If you experienced low or no water pressure, it is recommended you follow the guidelines outlined below. It is recommended that customers boil all water used for food preparation, teeth brushing, ice making, and drinking until further notice. Customers are advised to bring the water to a rolling boil for at least one (1) minute, which is sufficient to ensure the water is safe for consumption. After boiling, remember to let the water cool before use. Ice which has been made within the past five hours should not be consumed or used for drinking. The water may be used for bathing and washing without boiling. If you experience cloudy or discolored water at your tap, turn on your cold water faucet and run the water until the color improves.

The City of Aberdeen, SD Public Works Department and Aberdeen Water Works are monitoring the water system and will lift or revise this advisory as necessary. The advisory is a precautionary measure and will be lifted after water service and quality are fully restored and water quality tests verify the safety of the water supply. This process may take up to three days.
