Beware of Scam: Corbin got a text from a person wanting some painting services done on a house they just purchased in Aberdeen. They claimed they were out of state going through treatment for lung cancer and they wanted the work completed before they got back to Aberdeen. He found out the address in town and we drove by. It has a for sale sign but no sale pending sign. They wanted to know if he would take a credit card payment and they would pay him $1,500 up front. The person behind the texts did not use proper grammar. 1st red flag. I told Corbin to play along. They continued with the story for Corbin to charge the credit card for the $1,500 plus $100 tip and then another $5,100 that Corbin would need to get to the prior owner because this person owed the prior owner that amount and they had no way to take a credit card payment. And once Corbin got that money to the prior owner he could get in to start painting. He contacted Aberdeen Police department and they had Corbin get the credit card information. Once he got the number from the scam artist they sent multiple texts asking if the credit card had been charged. The police got ahold of the name on the card. He lives down in Texas. Yes the information was stolen and he told the officer to thank Corbin.
Since that time another person sent a text asking if he does exterior painting. They need a whole house painted and does he take credit card payment. Apparently they sold his number.
