🌿 State Native Shrub: Texas Purple Sage

Meet the Texas purple sage (Leucophyllum frutescens) — officially named the State Native Shrub of Texas in 2005! 💜

This hardy, drought-tolerant shrub is a true Texan:
✅ Native to West and South Texas
✅ Thrives in dry, rocky soil
✅ Bursts into stunning purple blooms — often just before a rainstorm!

🌦️ Fun Fact: Known as the “barometer bush,” many Texans believe it can predict rain. When the purple sage blooms, a storm may be on the way!

🌸 With its rugged beauty and deep roots in Texas landscapes and folklore, the purple sage is a perfect symbol of the Lone Star State’s natural charm.

Stay tuned next week for another iconic Texas symbol! 🌟

🎉 The numbers are in...and WOW! 🎉

From May 16–23, during the first full week of at the new Main Library at Abilene Heritage Square, more than 25,000 people visited the library!!! 📚✨

To put that into perspective: That ONE WEEK accounted for nearly 30% of the total visits the previous Main Library saw during the entire last fiscal year.

The community has truly shown up to support, explore, and celebrate this incredible new library space, and we couldn’t be happier or more grateful. ❤️

As we head into summer, we’ll be adding even more programs, events, storytimes, activities, and opportunities for the community to enjoy. We can’t wait to see even more people discovering everything the new Main Library has to offer!

Thank you, Abilene, for making the new Main Library at the Square an exciting success already. ☀️📖
